So today’s post is inspired by one of my patient a National Shooter who eats nuts and seeds as healthy snack. A common habit which I see in many people now
Ayurveda considers nuts and seeds as super foods. According to Ayurvedic diet, intake of all types of nuts and seeds in moderation is healthy. Nuts and seeds provide lubrication and nutrition to body, skin, joints and hair.
A seed or nut normally gets enough moistness from rain to wash-down the acids and enzyme inhibitors so it can take root and yield a plant. By soaking nuts and seeds before we eat, we are imitating nature by neutralizing these toxic growth inhibitors by discharging the natural enzymes and energy within them.Soaking also makes the nuts and seeds easier to digest. The nutrients in them will be easily and fully absorbed by the body.
Always throw away the water in which they are soaked as it contains inhibitors and toxic substances like enzyme inhibitors, phytates (phytic acid), polyphenols (tannins), and goitrogens.
The fruit sugar content of dried fruit is higher than that of fresh fruit, as the water content is removed therefore be mindful of eating them as snacks
If you’re a Vata dominant individual or have a Vata imbalance then dried fruit should be avoided, unless it is soaked overnight and re-hydrated.
If you’re a Pita dominant person , avoid the sour taste or use in moderation. Apples, apricots, berries, cherries and green fruits may be sour.
Favor sweet and bitter foods. Sweet fruits may include, dates, berries, grapes, mangoes, prunes and raisins.
Kapha dosha can enjoy dried and astringent fruits like cranberries, figs, prunes and raisins.
According to Ayurveda The Right way to Eat Dry fruits is consume it after soaking it in water for 6-8 hours. The Right time to eat dry fruit is in morning and right method is to soak first.
